Amendments, Immigration, and Obama

With the election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America on November 4th, 2008, the sales of both firearms and firearm ammunition skyrocketed exponentially.[1] After President Obama’s inauguration, America also experienced an exponential explosion in the number of armed militant anti-government militia groups.[3]
However, even in the early 21st century, similarly well-armed vigilante militias were patrolling the United States’ two-thousand-mile border with Mexico.[7][8]
On April 23, 2010, three months after assuming office with the resignation of now-3rd Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Nepolitano, the 22nd Govenor of Arizona, Republican Janice Brewer signed into law Arizona Senate Bill 1070, the “Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act”.[4] SB 1070 requires the police to detain anyone if an officer harbors any suspicion they are in the country without authorization.[5] Since, if any officer does not do so they can be sued by any resident for restricting the enforcement of deportation, and to protect against lawsuits the police must question much question all Latinos whenever an officer interacts with a person of color; SB 1070 appears to mandate racial profiling.[2]
With the explosion in armed militias, which, as it took place at the same time as the election of the nation’s first-ever African-American President, has definitive intonations of racism, and the legalization of racial profiling by law enforcement, the fear exists of violent vigilantism.[6]
